Faith And Social Media: Spotlight on Willie Moore Jr., St. Louis, MO

Occasionally, we will feature a faith based organization that is effectively utilizing social media to reach out to the masses in this technological age. In this installment, The KaiCon Group is honored to feature Christian Artist Willie Moore Jr., Founder and President of Young, Fly and Saved.

TKG: Willie, your bio from williemoorejr.org highlights the great strides you are making in sharing the Christian message of faith and hope through social media. Not only do you have a strong presence on iTunes with your music, but you are also on YouTube with your weekly video logs. You’ve been on YouTube since February and are already at over 800,000 views on your YouTube channel. Your video logs (vlogs) are funny and also very insightful. They always have a positive and faith filled message that is backed up by scripture. Tell us, how do you come up with the material that you share?

WMJ: I usually look at the news or take question from email, twitters or Facebook messages from hundreds of people every week, and base my messages around the need and wants of the people. Everybody usually has an opinion, including myself. However, God’s word is the final authority on all of the videos, and I try to encourage my viewers to make that the standard.

TKG: You have one video entitled Church Foolishness on your YouTube channel where you mention that this is an “unchurched” generation. How do you think churches can utilize social media in a way to reach the “unchurched?”

WMJ: I need all churches to make the best presentation they can on their websites, twitters and Facebook (pages). We will be sending a lot of traffic to different church sites for the people who are looking for church homes.

TKG: Do you think churches are “missing it” in terms of using social media, and what is your observation on how churches and ministries can use it more effectively?

WMJ: Well, I believe that the bible says greater works will be done. This to me indicates that JESUS himself knew that a greater work was to come. This includes social media. Do I think church is missing it? Not at all. I feel like it’s time for people like myself to step up to the plate and speak to our generation and keep the fire going. However, churches need to be prepared for the influx of traffic that is due to come from the work of our hands. IN JESUS NAME!

TKG: Willie, you have over 50,000 followers on Twitter. How has Twitter impacted your ministry in terms of exposure and influence in matters of faith?

WMJ: It allows us to touch the world a lot quicker than a flight. I thank God for every person who follows me, because I know I get a chance to open them up to the Gospel through daily inspiration. I never knew how many people are seeking something. In most cases they don’t know what it is, but they know they need something. I take it upon myself to show them the truth and meet them where they are.

TKG: What is your goal and objective in using social media?

WMJ: My goal is to build a strong following and eventually equip them with tools. Books, music, movies, sitcoms etc. The possibilities are endless!

TKG: I see that you use HootSuite as a tool for your social media management. I use HootSuite also. Do you mind sharing why you prefer HootSuite?

WMJ: It allows all my different outlets to be on 1 accord. We serve a God of order and this is the best way for me personally to make sure I keep all of my people with the information I need them to have.

TKG: You made a submission to the Tyler Perry Talent Search, and your video was in the top 10 out of over 14,000 entries. Congratulations on this achievement. Tell us what other projects are you working on, and do you see social media being an integral aspect of your projects?

WMJ: Thanks! I will be working with Mr. Perry soon. I will be in his neck of the woods permanently soon. Social Media is the engine to this new business model that God has produced in this season. Its gonna be AMAZING!!

TKG: Finally, do you have any words of advice for Christian musicians, filmmakers, spoken word artists, etc in terms of using social media?

WMJ: NO ONE CAN DO WHAT YOU CAN DO LIKE YOU CAN DO IT. Do it how God told you to do it, and not how you think it will best received.

TKG: Willie, thank you so much for your time in sharing your insight with us. I am looking forward to seeing and hearing even greater things from you and the team at Young Fly and Saved in the future.

WMJ: Amen!!! Make sure you follow me on twitter @PWILLIE1. Like me on Facebook Willie Moore Jr and subscribe to my YouTube channel williemoorejrlive. MAKE SURE YOU LOG ON TO WWW.WILLIEMOOREJR.ORG AND VISIT ME FOR SOME FREE STUFF! LOVE YA!!!

I’m a big fan of Young, Fly and Saved. When I read this interview, it just made sense. That’s what social media is all about. If it doesn’t feel right, then you’re doing it wrong.

For instance, Willie talks about how they come up with video topics based on what they’re hearing in social media. That’s what I’m talking about, i.e. listening to your audience and creating content that is real for them.

It’s so easy to fake social media. I’m happy to see that the greater work here is the real thing. Blessings!

Tyler, I could not agree with you more. Willie and the YFS crew are making waves in getting the message across in a relavant fashion. Was so thrilled that he agreed to answer some questions that can benefit others in effectively utilizing social media effectively.

I also liked what he said about the church being able to receive those who their ministry refers for follow up. That is extremely important as well.

Thanks for stopping by and most appreciative for the feedback.
